The Rural Medicine Interest Group (RMIG) is a career interest group at the University of Pittsburgh SOM.  The RMIG's goal is to provide students with opportunities to learn more about the healthcare needs of rural areas, practicing medicine in a rural area, and public health issues relating to rural populations.  Throughout the year, the RMIG will organize lunchtime talks given by physicians, researchers, and public health officials.  The RMIG also works with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center (AHEC) to educate students about the need for physicians in rural areas, particularly in Pennsylvania.
